Marietta Holley was an author when women were generally forbidden from publishing. She lived between Adams and Pierrepont Manor at a home she called Bonnie View. After several tries, she finally succeeded in publishing several novels under the pen name "Josiah Allen's Wife." Holley corresponded regularly with contemporary feminists including Susan B. Anthony and Clara Barton. Her personal papers are now kept at the Jefferson County Historical Society.
